351C Project
May 31st, 2008I’ve been in the process of rebuilding a friend’s 71 Mustang that has a 351C in it. The Mustang has a Novi 1200 supercharger kit installed with a carb enclosure. A local shop told my friend that the Paxton kit was designed for his car. As it would turn out, this was not the case. The shop would not take back the kit claiming that he had it too long. My friend went to another local shop to have it installed. Since it was not designed for the 351C, my friend paid some serious money for the install.
Here’s the sad part. One shop sells him something that won’t fit his car and the other shop did a poor job of fabrication. Where the belt wraps around the SC pulley, I squeezed the the upper and lower SC belt together to test the tension and noticed that the head unit would move. I told my friend that his belt must have been slipping. He said “that explains why I would get the belt slipping squeal when I nailed it.” I checked the fuel pump and realized the shop did not boost reference it as per the install instructions. Good thing there was no boost! It really shows that a lot of shops do not take pride in their work nor do they conduct business with integrity. Both shops are very well known here in the SF Valley.
