13 Second Ride

May 28th, 2008

The setup I used was based on a junk yard bought 351W long block with the accessories. The break down below shows what I used on my 13 second setup. Above is an actual picture of my Stang running the13.54 @ 103.9 mph at Brotherhood Raceway Park in Long Beach on Terminal Island. The engine was basically stock except for the heads, intake and carb.

I bought this 65 Mustang coupe from a 17 year old girl. I redid the interior and paint. I added 4.11 gears to the stock open 8″ rear end. I rebuilt the suspension with a poly urethane kit. Up front I added 620 springs, 1″ front sway bar and KYB shocks. In the rear I used a 3/4″ sway bar with stock springs. I hopped up a C4 trans with a B&M kit. The stock 289 was dumped in favor of the 351W I obtained from the junk yard. This was a very basic set up that had 14 psi of vacuum. It had a very slight lope. The Stang had 87 octane gas running through its veins.

I took the car to Brother Hood Raceway Park in Long Beach. The first few runs only netted me low 14 second runs at 101 to 103 mph. I couldn’t get it to hook. After a car with slicks made a run, I jumped into that lane. I did my worthless burnout as usual. The BFG tires bit the ground and I ran my 13.54. It didn’t feel much different from the other runs, plus the car I raced ran a 12.7.
